The Commander of the Third Naval Zone has his headquarter in the city of Arequipa. It was created by Supreme Decree No. 01 dated January 10th, 1962, starting its activities in the year of 1975 in the premises of the headquarters Mariano Bustamante of the Peruvian Army, located in the district of Mariano Melgar, and under the name of Theatre of South Operations, commanded at the time by Admiral Luis Bianchi Infantes.
Later in the year 1980, by decision of the Naval High Command, the Third Naval Zone moved to its own premises located on the street Juan Manuel Polar 111 - Vallecito of Cercado in the city of Arequipa, being appointed as Commander of the Third Naval Zone Rear Admiral Ciro Saravia Hudson.
The Command of the Third Naval Zone has the mission to plan, organize, conduct and evaluate the development of the operations of its units and the activities destined to provide logistics support and security to the units and dependencies within the area of its jurisdiction, in order to contribute to the fulfillment of the objectives of the General Command of Operations in the Pacific and the Southern Operational Command.
In a permanent dynamic, together with military and civil authorities of the region, this Naval Zone Commander, in the fulfillment of the mission entrusted, develops various activities of civic action, social assistance, humanitarian aid and support to the general population in case of emergency, increasing and consolidating the image of the Institution, safeguarding its traditions and relations with the community.
