Battle
Declared the war to the Great Colombia in the year 1828, the blockade of its coasts was made. In order to take Guayaquil, the Peruvian ships Presidente, Libertad, Peruviana and five gunboats, ascended the Guayas River under the command of the Admiral in order to take Guayaquil.
A chain placed across the river allowed the enemy squad formed by the Guayaquileña, Adela, a schooner and four guns to delay the Peruvian attack. On November 24, while maneuvering, the "President" rang and was lying very close to the beach. They doubled their shots at Fort Cruces and Admiral Guise received a bullet that mortally wounded him.
All the land opposition was annihilated, boldly disembarking the Peruvian crew that took possession of Fort Cruces. The enemy ships went against the beach and their crew abandoned them. Of them, the "Guayaquileña" and two gunboats, were later saved and incorporated into the Peruvian Squadron. Concluded the combat with the defeat of the enemy, there was regretted the loss of seventy crew members and the irreparable disappearance of Vice Admiral Guise who had been replaced by Boterin.
